Foreigners who want to work or live in the Southeast Asian city-state of Singapore can only do so if they are vaccinated. The vaccination against Sars-CoV-2 will be mandatory from February 1, 2022 for the approval of new working papers and permanent residence. This is reported by Singapore’s largest daily newspaper “The Straits Times”.
Vaccination will be compulsory from February 1st next year for the approval of new applications for work passports, long-term passports and permanent residence in Singapore. Such documents can only be renewed if proof of vaccination is presented.
There is no compulsory vaccination for local residents. Almost 84 percent of the population are fully vaccinated.
Sharp controls at check-in
Singapore authorities announced the new regulation on Sunday as part of new measures against a feared Omicron wave. “These measures will help to maintain our high vaccination rates and to facilitate the safe reopening of our society and economy,” said the national task force.
Even employers are required to certify that their overseas employees and their families are fully vaccinated when they arrive in Singapore. Anyone unable to present a vaccination certificate may not enter Singapore or be allowed on board an aircraft destined for Singapore. (kes)
