Singles and doubles victory – Maxi Taucher swept the French Open

The wheelchair tennis player from Vorarlberg won at the French Open after a great energetic performance in both the singles and the doubles. The 16-year-old has thus fulfilled a lifelong dream.

For the 16-year-old from Hohenems, the French Open in Paris has become one big triumph, and he was in a league of his own at times. The final in the junior singles competition was a close call, however. With the better end for Taucher: In a spectacular match, he narrowly beat the number two seeded Dutchman Ivar Van Rijt in three sets, with the last set only being decided in the match tiebreak (2:6, 6:4 and 10:8). The young wheelchair user followed up the first Grand Slam title of his career with a second shortly afterwards: Together with his British partner Ruben Harris, he defeated the duo Yassin Hill/Van Rijt in the final of the doubles competition. In view of the previous exertions, this energetic performance cannot be valued highly enough. For Maxi, a lifelong dream has come true: “Sand is my absolute favorite surface and the French Open is just a cool tournament!”
