Sir Ian Holm: "Lord of the Rings" actor passed away at the age of 88

Sir Ian Holm (1931-2020) is dead. The British actor died in London at the age of 88, as his agent has confirmed to the "Guardian". "He fell asleep peacefully in the hospital," says a statement. Caregiver and family were with Holm. The 88-year-old died of complications from Parkinson's disease. The actor was "charming, kind and incredibly talented": "We will miss him very much."

Since the late 1960s, Holm has appeared in numerous films, including classics such as "Alien" and "Brazil" as well as in the cult sci-fi comedy "The Fifth Element". For his role in the sports film "The Hour of the Winner", he was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actor in 1982. Most young film fans should know Holm from the "Lord of the Rings" series and the "Hobbit" strips. In these the actor was seen as the old Bilbo Baggins.
