Siri: Apple removes the “Hey”

APPLE

Apple could change the activation phrase for Siri. In the future it will probably be enough to say the name. The word “Hey” is then superfluous. But for that Apple has to solve a problem.

  • Apple will change the wake word for Siri.
  • Instead of “Hey Siri”, “Siri” should suffice in the future.
  • The change sounds trivial, but it is probably more complex.

With a simple “Hey Siri,” iPhone can read the weather, set an alarm, call someone, and more. Now Apple wants to change the well-known voice command for the voice assistant.

Apple drops the “Hey”

Apple insider Mark Gurman writes in his Apple newsletter for the US industry service Bloomberg that next year or the year after that, it will no longer be necessary to say “Hey” to activate Siri, instead a simple “Siri” should suffice.

Also interesting…

The change sounds trivial, but it is probably more difficult to implement than it looks. According to Gurman, the difficulty lies in distinguishing different accents and dialects when pronouncing Siri. The word “Hey,” on the other hand, is pronounced the same pretty much everywhere in the world, whereas Siri can sound quite different in different languages.
