The attack happened on August 20, 2022. After the football cup game between the Grasshoppers and FC Wettswil, ultras from FC Zurich boarded the train at Weihermatt station, pulled the emergency brake and attacked supporters of the city rivals. According to an eyewitness report in an online forum of GC fans, the attackers used “pepper spray, metal bars and batons”. Five people were slightly injured in the attack, and property damage amounted to tens of thousands of francs.
The Zurich public prosecutor’s office and the Zurich cantonal police have now announced in a joint statement that six FCZ Ultras were involved in the attack. The six Swiss between the ages of 18 and 26 were arrested last week.
They are accused of being involved in the riots at Weihermatt train station on August 20. The public prosecutor’s office is now investigating criminal acts against life and limb, property damage, violence and threats against authorities and officials as well as other offenses against the accused.
The compulsory measures court has granted an application for pre-trial detention in five out of six cases. It ordered an alternative measure for the sixth suspect. The presumption of innocence applies to the accused until the final conclusion of the proceedings.
