six new medals for the French, cyclist Dorian Foulon in gold

Cyclist Dorian Foulon won the second French gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympic Games on Friday, August 27, by winning the final of the individual pursuit event over the 4000m C5, against the Australian Alistair Donohoe . Foulon was born with clubfoot, with 75% power in the left calf, and 35% in the thigh.

Moved to tears, the young athlete reacted shortly after the race: “I have no words there, I don’t realize. I have been waiting for this for a long time, it is the reward of a lot of sacrifices. I don’t know what to say: thank you to everyone who supported me! “

Earlier in the morning, Alexandre Léauté won a second medal at the Tokyo Paralympic Games. After gold, Thursday, in the individual C2 pursuit, the French athlete won the silver medal in the final of the 1,000m time trial in the C1-3 category.

Alexandre Léauté also took the opportunity to bring down the world record in his category. He had already established it at 1 minute 11 seconds and 373 thousandths in January 2020, but was beaten by Australian Gordon Allan. The Frenchman signed on Friday an unprecedented time of 1 minute 9 seconds and 211 thousandths.

“I don’t have the words, it’s always fun to make medals. I beat my two second record, it’s just amazing! […] Today was a new ordeal. I quickly turned the page yesterday and I went to bed very early, to be remobilized today and get the money ”, confided the 20-year-old cyclist at the microphone of FranceTVsport.

This final was contested by cyclists from three different categories. Coefficients are thus applied to the times achieved, depending on the degree of handicap. It was therefore the Chinese Zhangyu Li who set the best time, all three categories combined. Already world champion in the C1 category, he won in 1 minute 8 seconds and 211 hundredths. After applying the coefficients, the Chinese signed a performance in 1 minute 3 seconds and 877 thousandths, against 1 minute 5 seconds and 31 thousandths for the French. Briton Jaco van Gass completes the podium.

In addition, the judokate Sandrine Martinet won the silver after losing, in the final of less than 48 kg, against the Azerbaijani Shahana Hajiyeva. It is the seventh French medal.
