Six years in prison – Styrian blinded Carinthians with a wine glass

A Carinthian man lost his eye in a bar fight because a Styrian man attacked him with a wine glass. For this he is now serving six years in prison for intentionally causing serious bodily harm – the verdict is not final.

A slight jostling was enough for the situation to escalate. Last fall, in an inn in the Wolfsberg district of Carinthia, a 38-year-old Styrian man attacked a 26-year-old Carinthian man – first with his fists, then even with a wine glass. The glass smashed against his face with full force and splinters pierced his eye. Carinthian lost his right eye. The consequence of the fight last autumn: the Carinthian’s eye was completely destroyed and could no longer be saved. He lost his sight on one side and still has scars on his face. On Thursday, the accused Styrian was not legally sentenced to six years in prison by the jury and judge. The use of the wine glass as a weapon in particular led the jury to a harsher verdict: it was a case of intentionally causing serious bodily harm. After the punch in the face, he is said to have even tried to leave the restaurant, completely unimpressed.
