Karl Geiger achieves an outstanding end to the season in ski flying. The world champion secures the World Cup win and is the outstanding athlete in Planica. Team mate Markus Eisenbichler can still laugh despite a torn inner ligament.

Ski flying world champion Karl Geiger achieved an outstanding end to the season with a multiple victory at the World Cup finals in Planica. The Oberstdorf resident was unbeatable in the last competition of the winter with widths of 231.0 and 232.5 meters (459.3 points) and won the small crystal ball in the Ski Flying World Cup. On Friday he had already won the individual competition on the “Letalnica”. On Sunday morning he also won the team flight with his teammates, which was held in just one round.

“It was a great season in general and we are very happy,” said Geiger on ZDF. Markus Eisenbichler (447.9 points), who jumped slightly handicapped with a tear in the inner ligament, was also able to look forward to another podium as third. “I’m just happy that it was over and that it went so well,” said the Bavarian: “It was a really strong season for me, I’m completely satisfied.”

Pius Paschke had improved his personal best in the first round to 230.0 meters and was eleventh, Severin Freund came in 25th, Constantin Schmid in 27th and Martin Hamann right behind showed a solid performance in the last competition of the top 30 in the overall World Cup.

The Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud, who was already the overall World Cup winner before the final in Slovenia, experienced a moment of shock in the air in the second round and finished in 16th place.
