That would be a blast for Villach! A ski jumping world cup for women could take place in the alpine arena next season. The ÖSV is looking for a successor for the competition in December in Ramsau – and has Villach in its sights. City, country, SV Villach and Carinthia’s ski association already had a positive first conversation.

In 2007 a World Cup ski jumping took place in the Villach Alpine Arena for the last time. At that time, local hero Thomas Morgenstern won both men’s competitions. After 15 years there could be a big comeback next season – but with the world’s best women. Because the program in Ramsau with the simultaneous competitions of the Nordic combined athletes was tight on just one weekend, the ÖSV is looking for a replacement location. “The course has been laid in the association – discussions about whether it is feasible are ongoing,” emphasizes Carinthia’s head Dieter Mörtl. The idea of ​​a three-hill tour because efforts have been made to bring a major event to the Villach Alpine Arena for several years . Now is the chance. “It has to fit with the financing, because we want to create a sustainable event for the entire region,” says SV Villach chairman Gerhard Prasser. One topic is a possible three hill tour with the neighbors from Ljubno (Slo) and Tarvisio (It). Here, too, the first contact has already been made. Villach has top jumpers The city of Villach is just as positive about the World Cup. “It is important to us to promote women’s sport even more,” says Mayor Günther Albel. With Sophie Sorschag, SV Villach now also has a top jumper. The 23-year-old won the World Cup team gold in Obersdorf (D) in February and is currently dominating the Continental Cup.
