Ski World Cup in the ticker – the classic Hahnenkamm descent LIVE from 11.30 a.m

Who will grab the “golden chamois” on the traditional Hahnenkamm descent? Can ÖSV star Vincent Kriechmayr even do the double? The second spectacle in Kitzbühel is coming up, we will report live from 11.30 a.m. (see below). (In the video above you can see a few mood impressions from Kitzbühel.)

Here is the LIVETICKER: After two years of the corona pandemic, the fans and downhill heroes are longing for the comeback of the ski festival. ÖSV ace Vincent Kriechmayr says: “This is the biggest race for us Austrians, nothing beats it.” What has remained from Corona times: that there are two downhill runs on the Streif, the Super-G (at least this year and in 2024) was deleted. For Vincent Kriechmayr – yesterday’s winner of the “Kitzbühel Downhill” – there was only a transparent chamois, the golden one is reserved for the winner of the classic “Hahnenkamm Downhill” today. Kitz victory was still missing in the collection 31 times Kriechmayr was in the Ski World Cup already on the podium, it was his third win of the current season. In addition to the two world championship titles in Cortina d’Ampezzo 2021, where he had succeeded in both speed disciplines, the success on what is probably the most legendary descent on the tour is one of the greatest successes in the career of the Upper Austrian. The power pack from the Mühlviertel has already won other downhill classics such as Wengen, Gröden and Bormio. In Kitzbühel he won a Super-G in 2021. The ride “was a hundred percent risk. She wasn’t perfect,” said Kriechmayr in the finish area and then cited his ride in the traverse as proof. “I wasn’t there when the goal was scored in the Traverse and that’s why I wasn’t able to keep up the pace for the target shot. There’s definitely something else in there. Up in the plane I don’t know exactly why I lost so much time. But otherwise I was right on the limit, it was certainly a very, very, very good run.” Most recently, he had placed 17, 13 and 13 in the Kitz downhills and therefore did not count himself among the favorites this year. The next best Austrian was Otmar Striedinger (+0.88) in 14th place. “Good, but not very good”, the Carinthian described his ride. “I didn’t really take the U-Hakerl with me and left quite a gap at Seidlalm and Oberhausberg.” Kilde, the leader in the downhill World Cup, took 16th place with poor visibility under a cloudy sky, from which it initially snowed lightly again and again. Another descent is scheduled for today, weather permitting. This race is then considered the traditional Hahnenkamm descent. On Sunday, the slalom on the Ganslernhang, which also has a lot of tradition, is on the program.
