Face masks made from conventional food have a number of advantages – you know exactly what’s in them, you can choose the right products for your skin type and you don’t use any packaging waste.

Masks to relax your skin

Your skin is constantly exposed to stress. Fluctuations in temperature, sun and cold mean exertion for the skin and it should not be neglected to treat it to care from time to time. But you don’t necessarily have to go to the drugstore to buy an expensive product. You can also easily do this yourself! Bet some of those groceries are already in your fridge anyway?

From cucumbers and honey to yoghurt to apples and avocados, many foods have their benefits for a radiant and healthy complexion. Depending on the skin type, a different combination is recommended as a face mask. For example, products such as avocado or banana are suitable for dry and mature skin types, as they are particularly oily and rich.

Tips before applying the mask

But there are a few things you should know beforehand: Face masks made from food are richest when they are freshly prepared. It should not be kept for more than 24 hours.

If the mixture is too runny, oats can be stirred in to thicken the consistency. The mask should not get in the eyes, so avoid the eye area.

Before applying the mask, the face should be thoroughly cleaned. So that the pores can open and the skin is prepared, it is advisable to take a warm steam bath beforehand. This allows the skin to absorb the active ingredients in the face mask even better.

While you let the mask work on your skin, you can put cucumber slices on your eyes for an extra moisture kick and really relax. Cucumbers have a cleansing and tightening effect on the skin around your eyes.

Dry skin, large pores or looking tired? – No problem!

Skin as soft as a baby’s bottom

Yoghurt is ideal for getting particularly soft skin. Take 5 tablespoons plain yoghurt and add 1 tablespoon honey, mix and apply. Yoghurt is particularly moisturizing and honey has an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect.

Valuable fats against dry skin

Mash 1 tablespoon of 1 ripe avocado and then mix with 1 tablespoon of plain yoghurt. The avocado is particularly good for dry skin because it contains unsaturated fatty acids and many vitamins. Yoghurt also provides moisture.

An alternative to the avocado mask is to mix a piece of cucumber and 2 tablespoons of quark in a blender. The cucumber ensures firmer skin, has a cleansing effect and the quark provides extra moisture.

What helps against large pores?

Mix 2 tablespoons quark and 1 teaspoon lemon juice together. Lemon causes the pores to narrow due to the acid and the complexion appears more even. This mask is particularly suitable for normal skin types.

Mask for an awake look

Coffee not only helps against tiredness from the inside, your outside will also thank you for a portion of caffeine. For a face mask against tired appearance you need 5 teaspoons of coffee grounds, taken out of the coffee filter, 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of olive oil. Mix the ingredients well. For even more smoothness, simply stir in a little more honey.

The mask can work for 30 minutes. When washing off, you can work with circular movements to stimulate blood circulation like after a peeling.

Anti-pimple mask

Healing earth is the miracle cure when it comes to impure skin. Therefore, a mask made of 2 tablespoons of healing earth powder (available in drugstores or health food stores), which is mixed with warm water, is suitable. It can be left on the skin until it dries completely.

Blemish tendencies?

A combination of 1 tablespoon of grapefruit juice, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of honey and 2 tablespoons of cottage cheese is suitable for preventing skin that is prone to breakouts. The grapefruit contains potassium and moisturizes sensitive skin, but above all it helps with skin inflammation thanks to its acidity. These can be alleviated by the nutrients in grapefruit.

What to do after the mask

The mask can be rinsed off with lukewarm water after 15-20 minutes. Your facial skin will now be craving a moisturizer.

It is advised to do a face mask once or twice a week.
