A trend that makes you want to style yourself for working days in the office. The skirt suit replaces the trouser suit and provides “Clueless” vibes.

Attention “Clueless” fans! Business fashion will be more playful again in 2023: The pantsuit will have real competition this spring. And from within our own ranks. The skirt suit – or classically also called a costume – is one of the big fashion trends for the office. Cult fashion lover Cher Horrowitz would be delighted with this development.

While trouser suits often have a more masculine touch, the combination of blazer and skirt brings more femininity into the office wardrobe. Depending on the work situation or the occasion, the skirt suit can be worn in different ways. From short mini skirts to midi lengths. Or for a casual look together with sneakers in combination with white socks or black tights with rough boots.

Coco Chanel: The inventor of the skirt suit

Incidentally, the costume in its original form was developed by the French fashion icon Coco Chanel. She designed the two-piece skirt and blazer in the 1950s and presented it as a modern suit for women at the opening of her fashion salon in Paris.

While the costume initially met with harsh criticism, it quickly developed into an elegant part of women’s fashion. Even today, the Chanel fashion house is still designing new versions of the fashion classic and presenting them at the fashion shows.

Costume 2.0: Combine a skirt suit with casual basics

Due to its fashion history, the skirt suit is not only a stylish outfit, but to a certain extent also a sign of female emancipation from social guidelines and norms. Only that in 2023 it will be combined with more stylish basics instead of an elegant blouse, for example with a turtleneck top or a crop top, knee socks and trendy Mary Jane pumps.
