Indeed, it has made two big price cuts on its Model 3 and Model Y, one in January and one in April. A real price war launched by the manufacturerwhich is beginning to worry some of its rivals.
A new affordable version
This is particularly the case for Skoda, which currently only offers one electric model in its catalog. This is the Enyaq iV, a large SUV rival to the Tesla Model Y, among others, which we took the wheel of for a test drive. Until then, the range started with version 60, displayed from 46,150 euros. A price that narrowly allows the SUV to be eligible for the ecological bonus of 5,000 euros, reserved for cars under 47,000 euros.
For the record, this variant is equipped with a 58 kWh battery andan engine developing no less than 180 horsepower. But now another version is about to land in the catalog, as announced by the manufacturer in a press release just published. Indeed, Skoda unveils a brand new variant of its only electric model, which this time takes the name of Enyaq iV 50.
A cheaper version, and therefore obviously less efficient. The latter receives a 148 horsepower electric motor, which allows it to achieve 0 to 100 km / h in 11.3 seconds. This is associated with a 52 kWh battery, which offers an autonomy announced at 365 kilometers. It recharges from 10 to 80% in 36 minutes in direct current at 110 kW. By way of comparison, the Tesla Model Y claims 455 kilometers in its entry-level Propulsion version with its 60 kWh battery and achieves 0 to 100 km / h in 6.9 seconds.
As the Czech manufacturer specifies, this new version will not be offered everywhere, because only certain countries will have the right to it, such as Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. France was not mentioned, but it is possible that this variant will see the light of day with us a little later. We know, however, that it will not be offered in the Czech Republic, the country of origin of Skoda.
An interesting endowment
Of course, this new version is not necessarily the best equipped in the range and it had to ignore certain options to display a reasonable price. However, customers who choose it will notably be able to take advantage of the reversing camera and radars, 19-inch rims as well as navigation on a 13-inch touch screen. The Simply Clever equipment dear to the brand is also present, including the umbrella in the driver’s door.
But then, how much does this new version cost? In its press release, Skoda announces a price displayed at less than 40,000 euros, without giving further details. However, journalists fromAutomotive News announce a price of 39,990 euros in Germany, which could vary slightly if the electric SUV arrived in France due to slightly different taxation. By the way, does the name of Enyaq iV 50 ring a bell? Well, that’s completely normal.
The firm had already launched such a version in 2020, but it was quickly removed from the catalog since Skoda wanted to focus on the more premium variants instead, from 60 to 80. An RS version is also offered in the catalog, with 300 horsepower and a net 77 kWh battery, offering a range of 506 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. A wide range which should allow the manufacturer to attract many customers.
The firm is therefore following in the footsteps of Lucid, Xpeng, VinFast, Toyota and even Ford, who have also decided to revise the prices of their electric cars downwards. On the other hand, this is not the case with Renault, which does not plan to lower the price of its vehicles and which even increased that of its Mégane E-Tech Electric a few weeks earlier, by removing the small version from sale. battery.
