We no longer count the years of delay accumulated by Skull and Bones. Scheduled for the end of 2018, pushed back to 2019, the poor pirate game has gone through a whole bunch of different versions. Why not cancel it? Quite simply because it is the baby of Ubisoft Singapore, and local legislation forces the French publisher to publish something to honor their commitments to the government. Much like Theseus’ boat, the final beast is patched up from all sides, only marginally resembling the first images – and yet, it floats.

What will the final version contain? Tipiak adventures in the Indian Ocean where colonial empires, greedy corporations and pirate scavengers dreaming of fame and fortune collide. In the shoes of a beginner captain, players will have to build their crew and increase their resources through plundering. Ubisoft Singapore places emphasis on naval combat and the importance of mastering different types of craft. Skull and Bones presents itself as a multiplayer game where alliances are made and broken according to opportunities; nothing prevents you from collaborating with another crew to take down a merchant frigate before shooting them in the back to avoid sharing the loot…
Ubisoft Singapore is organizing a final closed beta from December 15 to 18. This test session will focus on the pirate hideout of Sainte Anne, nestled in what is now the Seychelles, within sailing distance of the African coast where criminal opportunities abound. A good part of the map Skull & Bones will be accessible, as well as a slew of contracts to succeed in to increase your infamy – your reputation. An image on the official website also shows a battle against a gigantic sea creature that is more Godzilla than whale. Participants in the closed beta will be able to win cosmetics and an emote to stand out. Registrations are made on the official website.
Unless you come across a final reef, Skull and Bones will be released on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series on February 16, 2024.
