Many Skyblogs will be saved for archiving by the National Audiovisual Institute (INA) and the National Library of France (BNF).

Before the arrival of Facebook, the famous Skyblogs allowed the French to share their daily life on the Internet. This real phenomenon for those who were teenagers in the 2000s is coming to an end, but without being erased from memory.

End clap for Skyblogs

Some must have had tears in their eyes last June, when it was officially announced that all Skyblogs would soon be closed. ” Shortly » actually means this Monday, August 21st. If you had kept one of those little online journals where it was possible to add lots of glitter everywhere (to the point of sometimes making your eyes bleed), know that it is now erased from the Web.

But if you can no longer relive your youth by looking, a little ashamed, at your personal page, know that it is likely to persist in the national memory. Indeed, two major institutions in the country in charge of keeping the past alive will digitize several million Skyblogs. And if not, you can always think of an alternative to replace your old blog.

INA and BNF on the spot

A team from the National Library of France will thus, thanks to a software robot, recover and archive 12 million blogs. ” It may seem surprising that the BNF is interested in Skyblog content, but in fact, for us, it is a heritage interest. Many historians, many sociologists, many linguists are interested in Skyblogs, since it is representative of an era ”, indicates to France info the head of the digital legal deposit department at the BNF, Vladimir Tybin.

The National Audiovisual Institute (INA), which recently encountered some problems, will carry out slightly more limited actions, since it has targeted 1.6 million blogs. These meet certain criteria, they must have more than 10 subscribers, 10 publications and more than 1,000 views. The INA aims to safeguard publications that have links with audiovisual production in France.
