Skygaze: transform your living room into a planetarium thanks to mixed reality!

sky gaze is an experience like there are many in virtual reality, but this one nevertheless stands out for the use of mixed reality. Thereby, you can explore the solar system from your living room, search for constellations, learn more about the planets or watch a show from a virtual planetarium.

So you start by identifying the walls of your real-world home using your Oculus Touch. Once setup is complete, your home’s ceiling will begin to retract, revealing a night sky crystal clear, dotted with stars, planets and constellations…every one of them having precise positioning based on your geographic location and time of day. It’s even possible to lower your walls, allowing you to see even more of the sky.

According to the developer Emanuel Tomozei, Skygaze is still under development, what’s available now is just a sample of what will be available at launch. Note that a separate planetarium space, where you can watch a 360 degree film about our solar system, is present. It’s quite a surreal feeling to watch city-sized asteroids pass overhead.

Skygaze is available now as a free demo on the Meta Quest via I’App Lab. According to the trailer, it looks like we will be enjoying a virtual telescope mode in the future, which should add additional stargazing opportunities. We also hope that the application can be integrated into the Project Cambriathe mixed reality device of Meta work-oriented and equipped with a high-definition color transmission system. In a post RedditEmanuel Tomozei said:

I hope to make it a full app, but it all depends on interest and funding. Any ideas and thoughts on what works, what doesn’t, what could be improved or added would be welcome.
