As amazing as it sounds, Skype still exists. Microsoft’s messaging system even inaugurates a new connection system, since it is now necessary to fill in captchas to access it. Not only are these little “games” very difficult, but the software will ask you to complete them ten times in a row.
This captcha has been spotted by Bleeping Computer and is only relevant for new users. If you already have a Microsoft account and attempt to sign in, you won’t have it. On the other hand, if you create an express account, you will have to go through it.
Skype imposes the most painful captcha on the internet
As a reminder, a captcha is a manipulation that you must perform to prove that you are not a robot. This can take the form of letters to copy or images to identify. Skype’s is more cunning. This captcha offers a sadistic game: a circle contains a multitude of arrows and you have to turn it until two of these arrows point upwards. It should not take too long to validate the riddle, otherwise you will start over.

Not only is this “game” unnecessarily complex but it must be repeated… ten times. More so, the software does not inform you if you are wrong. You have to wait until the end to know if your connection is taken into account or not. A real ordeal.
On Reddit, some users claim to have spent half an hour to check this captcha (while it usually takes no more than 30 seconds). The Arrows Game wouldn’t be the only validation process, as other equally evil ones have been spotted as well.
Bleeping Computer has contacted Microsoft to find out more. Is this a mistake, a manipulation to get people to switch to Teams? In any case, the Redmond firm replied that she was “investigating”. For now, you will have to pass this terrible ordeal to log in if you do not have a Microsoft account. However, there is a trick: it is faster to create one upstream and then connect to the software. Or, you can always use another chat tool, like Discord.
