Skype is not dead, and Microsoft is even removing advertising from it

What if Skype made a comeback ? In recent months, the Redmond firm has preferred to focus on its professional messaging software, Microsoft Teams. However, its historic software that once dominated the market still does not seem to want to completely give way to Discord and the others. This is evidenced by a new major update deployed by Microsoft, initially for testers in the Insider program.

Skype gets rid of ads and gets better

The main new feature is certainly the disappearance of ads from the interface, and this on all versions of Skype, desktop and mobile. All channels, chats and corners of the app are concerned, which allows the interface to breathe better and therefore to enjoy a smoother, more refined and more pleasant user experience.

Windows Latest, which was able to test this update, specifies however that currently it is still possible to come across an advertisement when opening MSN articles offered in the Skype news section. Perhaps a removal of these ads in a future update? Remember that this section can be hidden from the options. Let’s hope (naively) that this removal of ads will soon concern all other Microsoft services, starting with Windows 11.

Also in this update coming at a date unknown to the general public, Microsoft is improving its AI Copilot tool within Skype. Thus, image creation via artificial intelligence benefits from a completely revised experience: a new, more intuitive and complete interface, and simplified access from the chat window or the top bar are particularly noteworthy.

Finally, in addition to classic bug fixes (including the inability for some users to send media when connected in 5G…), Skype for iOS now supports OneAuth. This system allows you to easily and automatically connect to Skype if you are already connected to another Microsoft app on your device.
