Skype is perhaps no longer there instant messaging the most used, but that does not prevent Microsoft from continuing its development. Here are the new features currently offered within the Skype Insider program and coming soon to everyone.
Available on Windows 11, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, the Skype Insider program allows, like Windows Insider, the most motivated to preview software updates before their deployment to the general public. The objective is, unsurprisingly, for Microsoft to obtain feedback in order to make possible corrections. Today comes version 8.112 of Skype, which brings welcome (and sometimes late) improvements to all OS.
Modern additions to make life easier
First of all, Microsoft is adding the preview of PDF documents within Skype conversations. Thus, in a discussion where a PDF has been shared, the first page of the document will be displayed, and not a simple general icon. Practical for finding a file more easily at a glance.
The call interface also improves with this preview update. More precisely, it is calls from one person to another (not in a group, therefore) which benefit from a video preview whose size can be modified and the position changed in any corner. Skype will remember the applied settings. On mobile, it’s also easier to change cameras by simply tapping on the video to switch between front and back sensors.
Skype improves on all media
On Android more specifically this time, the message composer gives direct access to GIFs and stickers to use them more quickly. The composer also supports copying and pasting and dropping images and videos onto tablets. It was time.
Finally, Microsoft is taking advantage of this update to correct some bugs. The accessibility of audio messages has thus been improved on desktop, the stability and reliability on Android have been corrected, and a problem with interaction in chat on iOS has been eliminated.
