Slack announced the deployment of a beta for Windows on ARM. Slowly but surely, the initiative is gaining ground.

For many years, the majority of Windows PCs have been equipped with Intel or AMD processors under the x86 architecture. But Microsoft decided to change the situation a few years ago by offering computers integrating a chip based on ARM in partnership with Qualcomm. These processors offer higher performance along with optimized battery life. They have, among other things, enabled Apple to gain significant market share thanks to its range of M chips.

For its part, the Redmond firm has decided to accelerate with Windows 11 and the upcoming deployment of Copilot+ PC, a new family of Windows PCs running on ARM, with artificial intelligence at the heart of their operation. Several chip manufacturers, in addition to Qualcomm, are on board, and inevitably, application developers are preparing for this next step.

Prism to the rescue

With this new edition of Slack, Windows on ARM continues to build an ever-increasing portfolio of applications. This year, Google Chrome and Adobe have also deployed versions of their software adapted to this architecture.

And for platforms that still don’t have their native ARM iteration, Microsoft has developed an x86 architecture emulator for ARM called Prism. It promises better performance with speed gains of up to 20% compared to previous emulation solutions.

Slack

  • All-in-one communications solution
  • Integration with multiple software
  • Easy to use interface

Slack is a very useful software in the business environment. Popular with start-ups, the software makes it possible to make group video calls without using other third-party software. Discussions are organized in the form of channels which each bring together several collaborators as well as by private messages. The presence of numerous integrations with other software from different backgrounds (CRM, productivity tools, e-mail services) like the possibility of connecting it to Zapier make Slack an excellent software.
