Slalom men – “leather” to say goodbye to Thomas Pfyl – Sport

contents

Thomas Pfyl finished fourth in the Paralympic slalom. With that, the 35-year-old from Schwyz ended his successful career.

After the 1st run in the standing category, Pfyl was in 6th place. He didn’t manage a flawless run in the final, but due to the failure of two competitors he suddenly still had a chance of winning a medal.

However, the top 3, Arthur Bauchet (FRA), Liang Jingyi (CHN) and Adam Hall (NZL) made their runs to the finish, so that Pfyl was left with the unpopular “leather medal”. However, he was a whopping 3.48 seconds behind the bronze medalist. Neuchâtel’s Robin Cuche, who was a good 8th at half-time, dropped out in the second round.

5. Participation in the Paralympics

For the 35-year-old Pfyl it was the 5th and last Paralympic Games. In 2006 in Turin he won two medals. He then celebrated numerous successes at world championships and in the World Cup, but did not climb onto the podium again at the Paralympics. Now he wants to analyze the situation. The 2023 World Cup is certainly still a goal, he said.

Christians in 14th place

Pascal Christen finished the race in 14th place in the sitting category. Murat Pelit from Ticino was eliminated in the first run. It was also his last Paralympic appearance – at least in winter sports. Pelit wants to switch to clay pigeon shooting and looks to Paris 2024.

The monoski title went to the dominating athlete in this category: Jesper Pedersen (NOR) took his 4th gold in Beijing and his 5th medal overall.

In the visually impaired category, Austria’s Johannes Aigner was beaten by Giacomo Bertagnolli by 0.28 seconds.
