What are the disadvantages of slate?

Additionally, slate is a material that is both very heavy and more fragile than other tiles. You must therefore be vigilant regarding the storage and installation of tiles. Finally, slate is also more expensive to purchase than terracotta tiles, for example.
How long does a slate roof last?
If the material is appreciated, particularly for a Brittany slate roof, it is because it resists the passage of time particularly well. Once installed, the natural slate roof can last up to 100 years. This is also reflected in the cost price, ranging from 100 to 140 euros per square meter. As for the synthetic slate roof, it will resist weather conditions well for around 30 years. After this period, the tiles will need to be monitored regularly to avoid infiltration problems.
