SLB: a more low-carbon cementing process

(CercleFinance.com) – The American oil services group SLB unveiled on Monday a new technology for cementing wells based on polymers and with low carbon intensity.

The former Schlumberger points out that the EcoShield range makes it possible to limit the carbon footprint of a well under construction by reducing its CO2 emissions by 85% compared to conventional cementing processes.

In the Permian Basin, this technique was deployed by Pioneer Natural Resources in an 18-well test phase, leading Pioneer to adopt the formulation.

For SLB, this technology is likely to potentially avoid the emission of five tons of CO2 per year, the equivalent of the pollution of 1.1 million cars each year.
