Slightly injured suspect: Police describe arrest of Yves R.

After five days of large-scale searches, the police arrest the ranger. The investigators give details in a press conference. According to initial knowledge, they found the man in a bush. He had the weapons looted by four policemen in front of him.

The search is over. The man, a gun man, a ranger, as the investigators call him, is caught. The 31-year-old was on the run from the police in the Black Forest near Oppenau for days. In front of helicopters with thermal imaging cameras, special forces, search dogs. The man had threatened four police officers during an inspection in a garden shed that he had used illegally. He took the service weapons from them and disappeared into the forest.

After two witnesses, a special task force (SEK) seized him in the afternoon. The investigators described the details at a press conference. Because the suspect was considered dangerous, his trail was recorded with dogs. In addition, an aerial helicopter had secured the area. The dog immediately picked up the track and the investigators were soon certain that the trail was fresh.

The 31-year-old Yves R. was discovered shortly afterwards sitting in a bush, the police said. He would have put four pistols in front of him, and there was a document next to it. It was probably a farewell letter. Yves R. had placed an ax on his lap. The special forces spoke to him, shortly afterwards the head of operations decided to overwhelm the suspect. The detainee and also a SEK official were slightly injured. It is still unclear whether the 31-year-old fought hard when he was arrested or whether he was easily overwhelmed.

For the tranquil town of Oppenau, a nerve-wracking week ends with the arrest. "I'm just happy that the nightmare for our location has ended," said Mayor Uwe Gaiser shortly after the police informed the public about the 31-year-old's arrest. Gaiser himself doesn't know much more about the circumstances there.
