It is well known that the path to the group stage of the Champions League is not an easy one for the Swiss champions. Even before the first league game of the new Super League season against Lucerne takes place, YB has to qualify for the premier class.
The first opponent of the Bernese is Slovan Bratislava. The Slovakian champion loses the second leg on Tuesday against Shamrock Rovers 1: 2, but thanks to the 2-0 first leg win, they move into the second round of qualifying. The first leg is expected to take place on Wednesday, July 21 in the Slovak capital. The second leg will take place a week later in Bern’s Wankdorf (July 28).
In order to move into the group stage of the Champions League, the Bernese have to survive a total of three rounds. Most recently, YB took part in the premier class in the 2018/2019 season. It was also the premiere of the Bernese. (red)
