2022 technology now makes it possible to embed an icon for the remaining battery rate in the iPhone’s status bar. A new feature of iOS 16 to come.
It is often said, operating systems for smartphones have become mature. The new things they offer year after year are interesting, but no longer transform the experience as it could in the 2000s. Apple is here to remind us that innovation has not disappeared, and we shows it with iOS 16.
The next iPhone system, expected to roll out in September, has received a 5th beta with some additional new features.
The percentage is back in the status bar
Since the arrival of the iPhone X and notched screens, Apple no longer offered users to have the remaining battery percentage accessible at a glance. You had to go to the control center to find out the percentage next to the battery. This display is similar to the one offered on macOS, which allows Apple a certain aesthetic consistency.
Five years after the launch of the iPhone X, Apple engineers have managed to find the solution to this enigma. Just show the remaining battery percentage in the battery icon, rather than next to it! The ingenuity of this solution could scare more than one, but not Apple which should therefore offer us this novelty in a few weeks.
Beyond the joke about the time it took to see this novelty return, we can be relieved that Apple offers it for all notched iPhones. With the iPhone 14s, Apple is expected to reduce the size of the notch, which would have put the percentage back next to the battery. The novelty would then have been reserved for a few new models. Fortunately, this is not the path chosen by Apple.
