The US manufacturer is better known for large caravans, which have recently also targeted influencers. A characteristic of most models is the weather-resistant aluminum body, the shape of which has defined the company for decades. It is also evident in this new launch.
Airstream Basecamp with an off-road look
According to the company, the model, manufactured in cooperation with REI, is Airstream’s most sustainable caravan to date. Among other things, recycling materials for covers and work surfaces as well as a solar system and water-saving measures should ensure this.
Compared to the well-known production version of the Basecamp 16, this version has an off-road chassis that also allows driving on less accessible paths. The single-axle trailer is only 4.90 meters long, but inside it offers a surprising amount of space for two people.
In addition to a fully-fledged wet cell including a shower and toilet, the kitchenette is particularly worth seeing. From here you have a fantastic view of the surroundings through the large panoramic windows. The water treatment system, which kills bacteria with UV light, is also technically noteworthy.
price and availability
The basic version of the Airstream Basecamp 16 costs $46,000. At least $52,900 is estimated for the version presented here. The caravan comes with accessories such as a camping table and chairs. The Stockman Rover is a cheaper alternative to the Airstream and also suitable for off-road use. The brother EXP-8 is a size larger.
