Smarter but more expensive? Retreaded Thermomix alternative at Aldi

Aldi’s Thermomix clone looks different and costs more than ever before: 349 euros instead of 189 euros. What could it be? We do the photo check. In the video we show you what you should consider when buying a Thermomix or a similar food processor.

Thermomix clone from the discounter

In the current brochure, Aldi Süd lists a Thermomix clone that looks a bit different than the devices that we have seen in recent years. The device you from March 21, 2022 in the Aldi online shop can order, offers not only a 2.2 liter mixing bowl but also other well-known functions: stirring, kneading, mixing, cooking, steaming, pureeing, a two-year guarantee and a recipe book.

However, the price then subtly knocks you off your feet. Aldi wants it right away 349 euros have for the device. A real hammer price when you consider that the old Thermomix clone at Aldi still cost 189 euros.

Here are the product details according to the Aldi brochure:

  • Food processor with WiFi function
  • Operation via app
  • Illuminated color touchscreen display
  • easy cleaning
  • many functions: stirring, kneading, mixing, cooking, steaming, pureeing, etc.
  • including recipe book
  • Volume approx.: 2.2 l
  • 2 year guarantee
  • packaged goods
  • 349 euros

What is different? A picture comparison

We compared the well-known photo of the new device from the brochure with image material of an older Ambiano Thermomix clone, which comes from the test report of our Burda partner magazine “Das Haus” from 2021.

The functional structure is essentially the same, but that housing of the new device looks chunkier in the lower part. It apparently hides quite a lot more electronics under his plastic hood. The Ambiano lettering is missing. The removable stirring and cooking container looks as if it were a little deeper in the housing.

the controls are significantly different: the display is colored, there are no more rotary controls, only two recessed, covered buttons, apparently for controlling the scales. According to Aldi, the whole thing is controlled via a touchscreen, but you could also control it via an app.

That would at least have the advantage that no soup or jam that boiled over would spill into the rotary controls and make them stiff or completely unusable.

More colorful display, higher price

Aldi has its Thermomix variant thoroughly revised in the new edition. However, it is likely that the price increase will not bring increased functionality, but only more electronic componentswho control the colorful touchscreen and log into the WLAN. According to the brochure, the other functions are not different or more diverse.

In times of more expensive electronic components, the result turned out to be correspondingly more expensive. Cheaper than a real Thermomix is the device still, the new Thermomix TM6 should be 1,359 euros (Click here for the Thermomix shop) costs. Almost 350 euros for the Aldi device are a piece of cake, don’t you think?
