Smartphone-off well sealed: cult manufacturer withdraws completely from the market

There has been a lot of back and forth around the smartphone brand BlackBerry in recent months, after years of being very quiet about the former market leader.

After initially announcing in October 2021 that it would completely withdraw from the market, the big comeback was suddenly and unexpectedly announced in January 2022 this year.

The OnwardMobility group wanted to release a new 5G smartphone under the BlackBerry name. According to a report by Android Police, the new cell phone is apparently history again.

But no smartphone comeback from Blackberry? Official confirmation is still pending

The planned smartphone comeback from BlackBerry will probably not take place after all.

As the magazine has apparently confirmed, OnwardMobility has already buried its BlackBerry plans.

According to the sources, BlackBerry intends to pull out of the smartphone market entirely after recently selling off the remaining patents for around $600 million. According to the company, these were patents that “are not decisive for BlackBerry’s core business”. It is quite possible that the “patents for mobile devices” mentioned by the group also included the smartphone division.

There has not yet been any official confirmation from OnwardMobility. If there is any news on the subject, we will post it in this article.
