Samsung’s Galaxy S24 range undoubtedly contributed to this success against the iPhone 15, which did not allow Apple to maintain its place. The Korean giant shipped 60.1 million units worldwide, representing a market share of 20.8%.

As for the Cupertino company, it delivered 50.1 million units, or a market share of 17.3%. Both companies show a decline compared to last year at the same period. For Samsung, the fall is 0.7%. As for Apple, it is much more marked: -9.6%!

For the rest of the manufacturers, Xiaomi remains third with 40.8 million units shipped in the first quarter of 2024. Transsion, a holding company which owns Itel, Infinix and Tecno, takes fourth place with 28.5 million units. Oppo is in fifth position with 25.2 million units.

According to IDC, the smartphone market shows a 7.8% increase in shipments compared to the first quarter of 2023. The total stands at 289.4 million units shipped, compared to 268.5 million last year.

Expensive smartphones are popular

Remember that these are estimates from IDC. It is not known which models from these manufacturers were the best-selling, and the manufacturers do not reveal actual sales figures. Nabila Popal, research director at the Worldwide Track team, points out that the average selling price is increasing and users are opting for more expensive models.
