Smoke-free house – fire brigade rescues dog from burning building

Firefighters from the Bad Kleinkirchheim fire brigade in Carinthia became lifeguards on Wednesday morning. At around 5 a.m. they were called to a chimney / chimney fire in Drosselweg, where they were able to rescue a dog from the smoky building.

The cause of the fire was a fireplace on the ground floor, where there was an extensive fire in the partition wall. People were no longer in the building – however, the family dog was locked up on the upper floor. The equipped respirators penetrated through the smoke to the upper floor, where the animal could quickly be found and brought outside.

Animal rescue came first
After the animal rescue, the fire fighting was initiated. With the support of other emergency services, the walls in the area of the fireplace were opened with rescue saws and the fire was extinguished.

Nobody was harmed
Nobody – neither humans nor animals – was harmed during the operation. Contrary to the legal regulations, no home smoke detectors were installed in the building; the sleeping residents only became aware of the fire by chance.

The fire brigades Patergassen and St. Peter ob Radenthein as well as the Bad Kleinkirchheim fire station were in action.
