Subscribers now have access to a web version of Snapchat. But truncated by several key features, this version certainly does not justify the subscription to Snapchat + for the moment.

Snapchat+ service subscribers in select countries can now enjoy the app on the web. The American company Snap Inc. has indeed launched a web version of its photo and video sharing application.

A version reserved for Snapchat+ subscribers

Snapchat+ has been available since the end of June in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Only this offer, billed at 3.99 euros per month, is still rather sparse in terms of features. As we mentioned earlier, it essentially allows you to pin a person as a “best friend”, to know how many people have read a Story, or even to access some new icons.

For subscribers located in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada, the formula is now enriched with Snapchat for the web. Don’t worry, this version should be available in the other aforementioned countries soon.

To watch and talk, that’s all for now

If you’ve purchased a paid subscription, don’t feel too aggrieved just yet. Currently, Snapchat for the web is a very lite version of the app available on smartphones. It does not integrate certain elements available in the application such as stories or Snap cards and does not even allow you to send Snaps, those momentary photos that have made Snapchat famous. These mechanisms will be added later, as will filters.

Concretely, Snapchat for the Web mainly allows chatting by message or video in pairs or in groups. The service still retains its discretion component: the conversation is blurred when it goes into the background. Finally, in the event of a screenshot taken by conventional means, the other user is notified.

Snapchat is fun to use and fun. If this application wants to promise a certain anonymity, we must not forget that the company keeps user data, and that a simple screenshot cancels the expiry of the photo.
