  • You can ensure the safety of your children on Snapchat via the Family Center.
  • You have the ability to see who your family members are chatting with without having access to the content of the messages.
  • Parents can also limit what content their children see on Snapchat Spotlights.

Snapchat enjoys incomparable popularity, especially among young people. To ensure that your children and other family members still remain safe given the easy availability of the service, the Family Center exists.

You can do that with the Family Center – and you can’t

It’s a way to ensure your kids’ contacts on Snapchat are safe without compromising their privacy. You will receive the following additional functions if a family member belongs to your Family Center:

  • You can see which contacts the family member has chatted with and snapped with in the last seven days. However, to protect your children’s privacy, you have no way of viewing the content of the message.
  • You will receive a complete list of your family member’s contacts. This can make it easier for you to talk about your children’s new contacts.
  • You can limit what content your children can access via “Spotlight” and Snapchat Stories.
  • You can easily and confidentially report accounts that you think are questionable to the Snapchat Trust Team around the clock.
  • Since January 2024, you have also been able to specify whether My AI can respond to your children’s chats.
  • Also available from January 2024 is the function of being able to view children’s security and privacy settings in relation to Stories, Contacts and Snap Map.

These features give parents a lot of extra security when it comes to their children’s Snapchat use, without greatly restricting their privacy. You can add a family member to the Family Center by saving the contact as a friend and inviting them to the Family Center via the Snapchat settings under the menu item “Family Center”. However, the child must accept the invitation, so a conversation in advance is unavoidable.
