Snapchat wants to boost engagement with shared stories


Social networks are increasingly collaborative and are unveiling new features that promote interaction between users. A trend that Snapchat in turn joins with an innovation: shared stories.

Social networks have a new fad: collaborative content. Instagram already offers to publish common content on two accounts. Now it’s Snapchat’s turn to offer a similar option, but for stories. Users can now allow their friends to add content to their own story. A combination of content to better boost engagement on Snapchat.

To create shared stories, you simply have to select the friends on your list to authorize them to contribute to the story. The content created becomes visible on the accounts of these users, detailed Snap, which unveiled an explanatory video on YouTube on May 24, 2022.

Selected snapchatters can in turn choose friends to add to the loop and allow them to create their shared content. Users who have blocked a friend present in the sharing loop are however alerted.

A reminder of Custom Stories

Like Stories, Shared Stories are only visible for 24 hours. However, unlike regular stories and groups, users cannot enjoy a common chat.

This new option is reminiscent of the Custom Stories which allowed you to create group stories. A format however limited by the location of the users. “Shared Stories is a new iteration of Custom Stories, a product that previously allowed Snapchatters to create a story and add friends to view and contribute to it. Now, with our new and improved Shared Stories, snapchatters who have been added to the group can also add their friends, allowing the whole football team, camp team or group of new co-workers work to participate in the party”Snap said in a statement.

Collaborative content has gained momentum in recent years with the success of TikTok. The social network offers many options for using the content of other users and creating interactions such as “collage” which allows you to add an extract of content to your own video, or the duo which offers to share your video in two: on one side the content of a user; on the other his own video.
