Snapchat’s flying camera is selling better than expected, but maybe not for the right reasons


Snap’s new flying camera announced at Snap Partner Summit is reportedly selling out faster than expected. This drone carrying a camera on board and launched on April 28 already shows waiting times of 15 to 16 weeks on its site, the fault it seems to a bad anticipation of the Californian company.

Pixy sales seem to take off unexpectedly for Snap. After the launch on April 26 at a price of 249 euros, buyers of this new product from the Santa Monica firm were informed of the arrival of longer delivery times than expected.

Deliveries delayed for several weeks

Whose fault is it ? Well according to the words of its own director Evan Spiegel, the Californian company would simply not have planned enough drones in relation to the demand for the launch of its product.

This would cause delays of up to 15-16 weeks on the product site (at the time of this writing, the delay on the French drone site is 10-11 weeks.)

The specter of the Spectacles still present?

We can see in the sudden lengthening of delivery times a kind of admission of Snapchat’s fears regarding this launch. If the brand has not generated “enough” copies of its drone, it may be because it has experienced some failures in the past on the hardware side, in particular with its latest test to date: the Spectacles, which still caused the company to lose a trifle of 40 million dollars because of a preparation of stocks that was a little too ambitious…

It is therefore quite logical here that the company comes to take some precautions when the time has come to attack consumers again. You will therefore have to wait a little longer if you want to acquire this product. Even if you ordered yours at the very beginning of the launch, as Snap spokesperson Chloe Keusder points out.

Snap does not make its Pixy to order, and they have only been produced in a certain quantity which is unknown to us, but which is obviously not large enough to fill the expectation. The company refuses to communicate the quantity of drones it had planned for its customers. We therefore cannot determine precisely whether this shortage bodes well for Snap or whether it is really only due to really too low planned quantities.
