Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3: AI and WiFi 7 on the menu for future mid-range smartphones

Earlier in the week, Qualcomm revealed the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, a stripped-down version of its premium chip. It is now around its mid-range SoC, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, to benefit from a variation, boosted this time.

Improved performance

The American founder is advancing, with the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, an improved performance of around 45% for its GPU and 15% for its CPU compared to the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2. If we compare it to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 classic, which it intends to improve, this chip benefits from an increase in the frequency of the CPU cores: 2.8 GHz for its main Cortex-X4 core compared to 2.63 previously, 2.6 GHz for the four performance cores against 2.4 previously, and 1.9 GHz for those dedicated to common tasks, against 1.8 GHz on the previous version. Enough to hope for an even smoother and more responsive user experience, even in conditions where the device is particularly used, such as during sessions gaming or while capturing high-resolution videos.

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 also adopts the 18-bit Spectra ISP, unveiled at the launch of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Capable of supporting definitions of up to 200 Mpx, this image processor makes it possible to better identify the different segments that make up a shot and allows the recording of videos up to 4K at 60 fps.

AI and wifi 7 on the program

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is equipped with the from wifi 7 to mid-range devices, even though the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 was content with wifi 6e.

Finally, this new SoC offers advanced capabilities in terms of artificial intelligence. Compatible with different AI models, including Llama 2 and Gemini Nano (of which the Pixel 8 will be deprived), this chip would allow functionalities on-device.

A leap forward in the mid-range market, especially since brands such as OnePlus and Realme have already planned to equip their future devices with this new chipset. Qualcomm reports that the first products equipped with its chip will be presented in the coming months.
