Presented at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii this Tuesday, Snapdragon Seamless should enable better interconnectivity between professional digital devices.
Many of us today work in hybrid or remote jobs, where connectivity is more crucial than ever. Even when we work in the office, it is just as important to be reachable via our mobile phone. However, when you’re trying to work or access company resources across multiple devices, synchronization can be a difficult process and a barrier to productivity.
Furthermore, while some interconnectivity technologies exist, they are often locked in by software vendors and device manufacturers. In other words, customers feel pressured to stick to a single vendor or ecosystem to ensure their devices work well together.
Interoperable technology
Snapdragon Seamless aims to fill these operability gaps. At the summit, Qualcomm said its cross-platform technology “allows Android, Windows and Snapdragon devices using other operating systems to discover each other and share information to operate as a single integrated system.”
According to Qualcomm, the new system allows manufacturers to improve “multi-device experiences” between mice, keyboards, tablets, headphones, PCs, phones and tablets. It includes switching between headphones and audio sources, moving files and windows between devices using drag-and-drop controls, and more.
“Snapdragon Seamless breaks down barriers between OEMs, devices and operating systems,” said Dino Bekis, vice president of wearables and mixed-signal solutions at Qualcomm. “It’s the only cross-device system that puts the user first.
Snapdragon Seamless integrated into Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Snapdragon X Elite
Snapdragon Seamless is integrated into the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Snapdragon X Elite platforms.
Snapdragon Seamless will also be integrated into Qualcomm’s audio and wearable platforms and, in the future, will expand to the company’s XR, automotive, and Internet of Things (IoT) platforms.
Starting this year, Qualcomm said vendors and partners including Xiaomi, Honor, Lenovo, Microsoft and OPPO will collaborate with the company on Snapdragon Seamless use cases.
