SNCF: regional trains canceled due to cases of Covid-19

The epidemic rebound in France will sharply reduce local traffic on the SNCF network. Affected by the 5th wave of Covid-19, SNCF announced the cancellation of many regional trains between December 13, 2021 and January 2, 2022.

With the arrival of the highly contagious Omicron variant in France, the SNCF group had to adapt to the measures taken by the government such as the development of teleworking, which had effects on the use of lines.

In addition to this specific constraint, there is a health problem: a large part of the firm’s employees have been placed in isolation or on sick leave due to an infection or a contact case.

“The evolution of the health situation (increase in Covid cases and contact cases) may lead to local adaptations of some of our transport plans. The adaptations of the transport plans that we may encounter as a result of the Covid only concern regional trains, ”a spokesperson for SNCF Voyageurs told AFP on Thursday.

Occitania and Normandy affected

The Occitanie region was heavily affected by this announcement made by SNCF. In fact, the SNCF has canceled all trains until January 2022 on the Carcassonne-Quillan (Aude), Nîmes-Le Grau du Roi (Gard) and Perpignan-Villefranche (Pyrénées-Orientales) lines.

Other regions such as Normandy have also been affected by this reduction in rail traffic. Specific lines connecting Mende and Marjevols (Lozère), Evreux and Mantes (Yvelines), Bordeaux and Sarlat (Gironde), Nancy and Longwy (Meurthe-et-Moselle) as well as Lyon and Grenoble have been targeted by the SNCF.

The French company invited all travelers to check the maintenance of trains and their timetables on the TER site for their region or on the Assistant SNCF application.
