From an early age, Vladimir Putin would be a brawler. While the Russian president is talked about a lot, former classmates have spoken in the media and talked about his “sneaky” side.
Coming from a working-class family, Vladimir Putin lived in poverty before becoming president of Russia. At the heart of the news because of the war in Ukraine, his personality intrigues the greatest number. According to his former school friends, the politician was “sly“, “troublemaker“and terrorized his school in the Dzerzhinsky district of Leningrad when he was younger. His former teacher, Tamara Chizova, told the Timesthat she was “desperateto his behavior. His childhood best friend, Viktor Borisenko, recalled that Vladimir Putin was the first to join a fight when they were younger.”He could fight anyone. He was not afraid. It never occurred to him that the other boy was stronger and could beat him.“, he confided.
Viktor Borisenko recalled: “If a big guy offended him, he would jump on him, scratch him, bite him, pull tufts of his hair. Finally, he said:He wasn’t the strongest in our class, but in a fight he could beat anyone because he got frantic and fought to the end.” In 2012, in the book Putin, the faceless man, the journalist Masha Gessen had collected the testimony of a close friend of the Russian president. He had thus confided:If ever someone insulted him in any way, Volodya immediately jumped on the guy, scratched him, bit him, pulled his hair out to make sure no one humiliates him.“
Vladimir Putin, a martyred child?
If the Russian president wasn’t shy about getting into fights when he was younger, he would have had a tough time when he was sent to a Soviet orphanage. On La Première, the historian, professor, journalist and specialist on the Soviet Union, Alexandre Adler, explained: “He is a child who was practically martyred. I’m not going to give a Dickensian description of a Soviet orphanage, but no one comes out of this ordeal unscathed. A number of his father’s friends thought that he could not come out of this experience unscathed and asked Yuri Andropov to do something for their old comrade and at least save the child.“
