So far, winter has not really been able to assert itself. The calm and too warm high-pressure weather will continue in the coming days. But winter will be back from next Thursday, including snow.
The weekend is very mild, with light frosts in the south. In the west and north-west, the maximum values are between 6 and 8 degrees and sometimes it even stays frost-free – not exactly wintry.
Week ends stormy
From Sunday evening the wind will increase and it will be stormy on the Baltic Sea coast. Wind peaks reach up to 100 km/h. On Monday, the gusts of wind will spread across the eastern half of the country.
It can snow lightly in the south on Monday. However, only 1 to 2 centimeters of snow fall over several hours. And yet the flurry of snow is a delicate hint of winter. However, it will be a while before it snows properly again.
Monday to Wednesday: Slight slippery roads not excluded
The high pressure will prevail again early in the week. That means mild weather again, with up to 8 degrees. But again fog and in most parts of the country light frost or ground frost as soon as the sun goes down. Slippery roads can occur, but overall it is very dry. And with that, a significant slippery area is not to be expected.
Thursday: It’s snowing again
Already on Wednesday evening clouds are gathering from the north and it starts to rain. The rain will turn to snowfall during the night. With the exception of the Rhineland and the Upper Rhine, there will be snowfall over the course of Thursday. However, the intensity increases significantly from west to east. The east and later also the south get the most snowfall.
And the forecasts at the moment indicate that the snow could also stay put. However, this is anything but certain. The temperatures are going down accordingly.
Thursday, on the other hand, will be dangerous for drivers. The mix of rain and snow from Wednesday into Thursday can bring slippery conditions, as can snowfall on Thursday. But how does the week end? Is winter settling in now, or is it getting warm again?
Winter: Will the cold stay?
Things are looking good for the winter, at least for a few days. It could stay cold until Sunday next week. However, this winter the cold air was very often pushed to Eastern and Southeastern Europe. It has been shown that the weather loves its entrenched patterns. So it remains to be seen how long the new onset of winter will last, or whether the temperatures will go up and down again, as has so often been the case this winter.
