According to official information, no one was injured in the attacks, as reported by the Iraqi agency Ina. At first there was no reliable information about who had fired the rockets. A US State Department spokesman said no one was injured and there was no damage to US facilities.
Iraqi state television quoted the anti-terrorist unit of the autonomous region of Kurdistan, according to which twelve rockets were apparently shot down from outside Iraq and hit Erbil. The local TV station “Kurdistan 24” showed in one Live broadcast on Facebookhow their own studios and editorial offices were damaged by the explosions.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhaimi wrote on Twitter: “The aggression was aimed at the city of Erbil and its people. It is an attack on the security of our people. I have discussed the developments with Barzani, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region. Our security forces will investigate and take action against any threats.”
