So what is this cluster of wires spotted by the Perseverance rover on Mars?

Since its launch in July 2020 and its arrival on March in February 2021, Perseverance was able to observe some curiosities from the surface of the red planet. And a piece of news has caught the attention of scientists in recent days.

Things are happening on Mars! The famous rover sent by NASA was able to take beautiful photos during its journey. We were thus able to observe on several occasions the desolate landscapes of the planet and its sometimes astonishing rock formations. On July 12, the robot made yet another slightly more atypical discovery. Even if, once again, a very down to earth explanation (a shame for Mars) was given by the observers.

No waste collection!

As you can see from the shot at the top of this article, a kind of long tangled thread was photographed by Perseverance. Many theories have quite logically spread on the internet… Some see it as spaghetti (poorly) cooked by the local population. But if we put the questionable humor aside for a moment, a more believable explanation has been found by a NASA spokesperson.

Thus, it would rather be a question of a piece of rope from the parachute or the landing system of Perseverance. The rover would have lost it once its descent into the Martian atmosphere was complete. Moreover, the object had disappeared four days later once the robot returned to the same location. The wind had undoubtedly done its work. In the end, nothing abnormal to report!
