Investing.com – Blockchain technology is generally considered a safe way to hold or transfer assets. However, there are increasing reports of thefts.

Resourceful hackers are exploiting newly discovered flaws and have already caused around $3 billion in damages this year, according to a report by Chainanalysis. There is even talk of “hacktober”, because with a total damage of 718 million dollars, this month had already taken the lead after 12 days.

seems to be a particularly popular target for hackers, as after several successful raids, users of the FTX crypto exchange have recently been robbed of their money.

A user found that 5000 transactions with DMG tokens, which he had not authorized, had taken place through his account. Subsequently, transactions with different cryptocurrencies were initiated from his account, resulting in a loss of $1.6 million.

After this case was made public, other aggrieved people came forward. The investigation opened revealed that the 3Commas platform was the starting point of the attacks. By installing fraudulent browser extensions on the affected people, hackers were able to obtain 3Commas API keys. To do this, they used a fake 3Commas website. They finally managed to manipulate automated business processes.

FTX Founder and CEO Sam Bankman-Fried said the exchange will only pay for damages once.
