Solar roof tiles for everyone: Autarq from Brandenburg achieves crowdfunding goal

ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCES

The Brandenburg company Autarq manufactures solar roof tiles and asked for support via crowdfunding. With success – one million euros could be collected.

  • In Germany alone, according to Autarq, around 15 million roofs will have to be renovated in terms of energy efficiency over the next 25 years.
  • The German company wants to be at the forefront with its solar roof tiles.
  • Crowdfunding is used to find supporters for this idea.
  • Update from March 23rd: The crowdfunding goal was reached.

Anyone who would like to produce electricity sustainably, but does not want to place a conventional photovoltaic system on their roof, will occasionally come across the Brandenburg climate tech provider Autarq. We have already introduced you to the innovative solar roof tiles, which are created together with well-known roof tile manufacturers such as Creaton or Jacobi Walter, at this point.

The highlight of the Autarq solution: The original tiles are connected to miniaturized solar modules, sold and installed by local roofing companies. The result is a roof that, at first glance, can hardly be distinguished from a “normal”, non-current-carrying roof. This is why Autarq solar roof tiles are also ideal for the restoration of historical buildings that are listed as monuments.

Since the demand for Autarq solar roof tiles currently exceeds the supply, the Brandenburg company wants to grow in 2023. According to the specification, 1,500 new solar roofs are to be built in the coming year. The necessary funds should also come from a crowdfuning campaign, which can be found here since November 6th. The marginal data for investors looks like this:

  • Type of financing: (partial) subordinated loan
  • Financing model: Fixed-interest loan with annual interest payments
  • Term: 5 years (2027)
  • Planned rate of return (annual interest): 7.5 percent
  • Investment possible from: 250 euros

Since 2017, Autarq has been part of econnext, a majority shareholder with a focus on sustainability. Bear in mind that investments of this type – as is usual with crowdfunding – are not without risk for you and can lead to the complete loss of the invested capital. Autarq wants to create additional incentives.

The manufacturer wants to give investors with the first 1 million euros a say in the selection of a solar roof per year (for the duration of the investment), which Autarq will implement for a non-profit/social institution. Once every six months there will also be a virtual investor day with updates on the business model.

Update March 23: Autarq reaches desired crowdfunding goal

As announced by Autarq on March 23, the financing target of one million euros has been reached. More than 750 private individuals took part in the financing. “For us, the campaign is not just about participation in the technology as a whole, but also about participation in the capital market and the energy industry. Today there is hardly an opportunity in climate technology that is designed in Germany and produced in Europe invest. Our product mobilizes people because it can mean added value for each individual,” says Autarq Managing Director Kai Buntrock.
