The University of Michigan’s preliminary U.S. Consumer Sentiment Index for August came in at 55.1, versus 52.5 consensus and 51.5 for the July reading, after an all-time low in June . The sub-index relating to current conditions, on the other hand, fell from 58.1 to 55.5 (57.8 expected), and that relating to expectations rose from 47.3 to 54.9 (48.5 consensus).
