Somalia-End of Mogadishu hotel siege-AFP

Aug 20 (Reuters) – Somali security forces have ended a siege by Islamists from the Al Shabaab group on a Mogadishu hotel, the AFP news agency said on Twitter on Saturday.

“The attackers are dead,” a security force commander told AFP, adding that a press conference would be held on Sunday.

At least 12 people were killed in an attack on a hotel in the Somali capital, frequented by Somali ministers and parliamentarians.

Responsibility for the attack was claimed by Al Shabaab, an Islamist group linked to Al Qada which has been fighting the government for more than a decade, according to the jihadist activity monitoring site SITE Intelligence Group. (Report Ann Maria Shibu; French version Camille Raynaud)
