MOGADISHU (Reuters) – Suspected members of the armed Islamist movement Al Shabaab attacked a hotel in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, where government officials are staying, a police officer told Reuters on Sunday.

The assailants attacked the Villa Rose hotel, near the presidential palace, using firearms and explosives, said this policeman, Mohammed Abdi, saying he did not know the number of participants in this commando.

Somalian Environment Minister Adam Aw Hirsi said on Twitter that he was safe after “a terrorist explosion targeted (his) residence” at this hotel.
