Some Apple Watch screens flash, but Apple doesn’t seem concerned

Some Apple Watch users seem to experience a problem when Always On mode is activated: the screen starts to flicker. On the brand’s side, there would be no worry: a future update could correct the problem.

For several weeks, Apple Watch customers have been complaining on forums and on social networks. The cause is the screen of their connected watch: when Always On mode is activated, the screen may start to flash. For Apple, the problem does not seem severe and would be corrected soon.

Apple Watch screens flashing

Always On mode on Apple connected watches allows certain information to be constantly displayed, such as simply the time. This uses a little more battery, but comes in handy. However, some users have pointed out a problem with the screen: its brightness changes briefly on its own, sometimes causing bursts of brightness. Some also speak of “ random flicker “.

Apparently, this bug occurs more frequently on the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2, the latest two models, launched last month. Also, this seems to be present on all versions of watchOS 10, including the latest version, watchOS 10.0.2

At Apple, no alarm bells

A note probably sent this Tuesday by Apple to service providers could be consulted by MacRumors. According to the specialist media, the manufacturer does not recommend repairs on connected watches. It asks these providers to advise customers to ensure their device is up to date. Another concern that is part of this note: the activity rings on one of the dials may temporarily turn pink. A problem already reported for several weeks on the Internet.

This suggests that Apple will roll out a fix in a watchOS update soon. However, watchOS 10.1 should arrive next week: it is not certain that the fix will be there. An intermediate solution could be to delay the release of this version, so that the bug fix is part of it. If you’re concerned, Apple has a temporary solution: simply turn off Always On mode in the Settings app and in the ” Display and brightness “.
