After the screen problems and untimely disconnection of the stylus observed on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, some Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus seem to be suffering from a photo sensor problem… potentially irreversible.

Sharp in the center, blurry at the edges. It’s a bit like that we could summarize what some Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus offer in terms of photos. According to the testimonies of several users on Reddit, but also on the official Samsung forum or here, the photos taken with the two devices suffer, on certain units, from a major problem of sharpness.

An abnormal blur effect

As you can see from the two examples below, the center of the image is sharp, while the focus is upset at the edges. This effect is reminiscent of depth of field in photography… except that it’s not at all intentional here and it’s obviously impossible to get rid of it.

Be that as it may, the blurring observed by the users concerned most often adopts a rounded shape, or a ring, and results in a fairly dirty rendering, even difficult to use if, for example, a photo of text or a scene with many small details. This effect does not always appear in the same place, and is sometimes visible near the center of the image.

However, affected users report that their Galaxy S23 works perfectly fine for the rest, and Samsung, meanwhile, has yet to comment on the issue.

Hardware problem?

As it stands, this concern seems rather material and would be related to one of the camera’s photo sensors… or one of its lenses. For now, it fortunately remains restricted to a small number of users: it is therefore not excluded that Samsung offers a device replacement to impacted users. However, it is impossible to confirm this in the absence of official communication from the brand.

As WCCFTech points out, this kind of blur is not really a first in the world of mobile photography. It is nevertheless really disabling and frustrating on a high-end product like the Galaxy S23, marketed from 959 euros in France.
