fun, news, tips… what else?

Certain presentations of paracetamol (Doliprane) are certainly suitable for children, but they may present risks.

For 2 years, medicine boxes containing paracetamol (Doliprane) for adults and for children include warning messages “Overdose = Danger“ or even “Exceeding the dose can destroy the liver”. For children, medicines adapted in the form of sticks or granules are no exception to the rule, quite the contrary. These are sold in suitable formats (stick, sachets) for children, they are practical, slip everywhere and open easily. “Opening the sachets is easy. There is no security system that could prevent or delay the opening of the bag by a child. The attractiveness of the aromas and the presentation in sticks trivialize the use of paracetamol, and particularly expose children to overdoses”warns the magazine Prescrire. We must therefore be extra vigilant.

How to avoid overdose?

Never leave sticks or granules available to your child
Also, don’t throw away the instructions for useyou can find important information on the dosage to give according to the weight of your child for example.

  • Up to 30 kg: no more than 6 per day taken every 4 hours
  • Up to 48 kg: no more than 8 per day taking two sachets every 6 hours.

No one is immune to an overdose, do not hesitate to ask your pharmacist or your doctor for advice! Overdose of drugs containing paracetamol can become toxic to the liver and endangering your life.
